The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.

Supported by 19 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

You will be actively involved in in-house research activities and the operation of the beamline, providing support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research project in the broad area of soft matter or biophysical sciences.

Your primary missions as a postdoc will be to perform in-house research and provide support to external users in the form of local contact. Together with other beamline staff, you will be required to contribute to the maintenance and development of new sample environments and data analysis methods.

ID02 is a high-resolution time-resolved SAXS/WAXS/USAXS instrument featuring a 34 m long detector tube combined with state-of-the-art detectors. In addition, XPCS can be performed in the SAXS/USAXS configuration. The beamline is primarily dedicated to research on soft materials and biological specimens. The beamline primarily focuses on soft matter science and biophysics related research. In-house research topics include: the dynamics of spontaneous self-assembly processes in amphiphilic systems, the emergence of complexity in active matter, and the interplay between microstructure and rheology in complex fluids. These research programmes integrate time-resolved investigations and techniques such as variety of techniques such as rapid mixing, rheology, and advanced data analysis.

- Ph.D. in Physics or Chemistry or Biology or a closely related subject, obtained less than 3 years ago.

- Prior experience in applying X-ray scattering techniques to study soft matter or related systems will be an advantage.

- Aptitude for instrumentation including programming skills.

- Sound knowledge of scattering data analysis and modelling will be an advantage for both the in-house research and user support.
