The position presents the opportunity for a high level appointment to lead the Resources Engineering program.

The Resources Engineering program sits within the Department of Civil Engineering and includes degrees in mining, renewable energy, oil and gas and geological engineering. The mining degree was established in response to a call from industry to meet the global shortage in mining engineers and since then has had positive growth and development. Our course aims to provide industry with the "mining engineer of the future" through a new and transformative approach to the application of engineering disciplines in mining. The defining attribute is the ability to take an integrated, holistic view of the mining value chain underpinned by engineering excellence and its relationship with economic management, people, safety and environmental factors.

In line with the department's vision for expansion and improvement, this is a brilliant opportunity to play an integral part in shaping the future of mining education and research at Monash University. With an ability to leverage strong industry and state government support, the successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of the mining industry and sustainable development principles, evidence of international collaborations and research connections, as well as being able to demonstrate high level recognition for scholarly and professional achievement.

You must show competence in and a strong commitment to, undergraduate and/or post graduate teaching.

To be considered, you will have:

  • an undergraduate degree in mining engineering or related discipline
  • a research doctorate in an area related to mining engineering
  • demonstrated experience and ability in undertaking outstanding research and taking a lead role in research, scholarship and teaching matters
  • experience in leading the development and delivery of high-quality teaching materials
  • research ability evidenced through record of publishing in high impact journals, obtaining significant external grants, and capabilities to develop a strong mining-based research program
  • evidence of sustained relationships including with relevant industry, business, government agencies and professional bodies
  • public or private sector experience in the mining industry.

This is a rare opportunity to work with high performing and engaged staff and students in a collaborative and stimulating environment with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure.

Applicants with non-traditional academic backgrounds are also welcome to apply.

Appointment will be made at a level appropriate to the successful applicant's qualifications and or experience and in accordance with classification standards for each level.
