Nikhef is the national institute for subatomic physics in The Netherlands. At Nikhef, approximately 175 physicists and 75 technical staff members work together on theoretical and experimental research in the fields of particle- and astroparticle physics. Nikhef includes a collaboration between 5 major Dutch universities and the Nikhef research institute. The B-physics group of Nikhef has several openings for
to work on the LHCb experiment at the CERN LHC collider. The group is involved in the research program of CP violation and rare decays of B mesons and exotic particle production as well as on future detector upgrades. Nikhef contributes in hardware to the Vertex Locator silicon detector (Velo) and the Scintillating Fiber Tracker (SciFi), and in software to the online reconstruction of events in the High Level Trigger (HLT).
We are looking for candidates to work on the physics analyses as well as to contribute to detector work or software algorithms. The physics analyses are measurements of decay-time dependent CP violation, searches for long-lived particles or tests of lepton flavor universality. The technology projects include work on the Velo, SciFi or online reconstruction algorithms for the HLT.
Keywords: CP violation, lepton (non-) universality, long-lived particles, Velo, SciFi, HLT
The successful candidate has a master in physics with knowledge of particle physics. Strong software skills are desirable.
The candidate will be employed by the NWO-I-foundation and will obtain the status of junior scientist. He/she will receive a 4 year contract. During this time there is the possibility to stay at CERN for a period of about 1 year. Your gross monthly starting salary will be € 2.291,-, increasing to € 2.937,- in the fourth year. The conditions of employment of the NWO-I-foundation are excellent and can be found on www.nwo-i.nl
