YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

In the network of science and industry, SAL offers research in the areas of Sensor Systems, Microsystems, Intelligent Wireless Systems, Power Electronics and Embedded Systems. 
SAL – a great place to research.

The Integrated Photonics Technologies unit focuses on developing advanced integrated sensors for emerging applications e.g. automotive, environment, medical. 
The successful candidate will work in the framework of a HORIZON project starting in 2023, dedicated to the development of a new collaborative detection and ranging sensor system. 
Tasks expected to be performed will include:

  • Development of advanced integrated photonics components and systems for automotive sensor application
    • Use of dedicated photonics and multi-physics simulation tools (e.g. Ansys Lumerical, Comsol)
    • Layout of complex photonic integrated circuit (Luceda IPKISS)
    • Dedicated fabrication processes development
    • Characterization of integrated components
    • Testing of full integrated sensor system
  • Dissemination of research results through peer-reviewed journals and participation in international level conferences
  • Produce internal reports on development advancement
  • Support unit members with photonics design related tasks

YOUR PROFILE

  • You hold a master’s degree in Engineering (Photonics, Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunication), Physics or related. Graduation date before the beginning of the employment.
  • You have deep understanding of math, physics and electromagnetic wave propagation.
  • You can prove your programming skills. Python language preferred.
  • You have fundamental understanding of signal processing theory and electronic based communications.
  • You can clearly communicate and share the results of your work (use of basic Windows Office tools required).
  • You are a fluent English speaker.
  • Preferred skills:
    • Basic knowledge of integrated photonics
    • Previous experience in design and/or testing of silicon photonics based integrated circuits
    • Clean room experience for micro-fabrication

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group E. We offer competitive salaries and additional benefits based on your experience and qualifications. For this position, your minimum monthly salary starts with EUR 3.274, paid 14 times a year.
