Full-time Academic Position in Building Cultures and Techniques

Job description

This full-time academic position is for teaching and doing research in the field of "building cultures and techniques”. Through this designation, we intend to emphasize the relation between (i) technical concerns and skills related to building materials and their implementation and (ii) architectural design considerations (detailing, spatiality, materiality), in light of (iii) current societal issues, in particular the environmental impact of construction and the need to adopt more ecological solutions. Research in the field of “building cultures and techniques” thus questions the relationship between architecture and construction, not only from the field of technique, but from the field of architecture – its culture, its history and/or its specific tools. The challenges facing architecture imply the need for a perspective that is both informed by precise technical skills, but which can also be critical and transversal.

• a report (7,000-character / 4 pages max.) presenting the applicant’s research activities and a research project for the five first years in this position, including how these will integrate into ULB’s research teams
• a teaching dossier (7,000-character / 4 pages max.) including a report on the applicant's previous teaching activities and a teaching project for the first five years in this position; these must be relevant to the faculty and to the teaching profiles for the programmes to which the applicant is to contribute
• a note (2 pages max.) on the applicant's international achievements and projects if relevant
• the names and e-mail addresses of five references (with equal gender representation) who may be contacted by those in charge of evaluating applications. These references should not have conflicts of interest because of family or emotional ties.
