Job description
The full time Academic Position in Epistemology of Law and Legal Methodology aims to recruit a teacher and researcher specialized in the production of legal knowledge issues and the methodologies used to support it. This profile may include a philosophical and/or sociological and/or historical approach to the processes involved in the production of standards and standard-setting mechanisms, as well as discourse and knowledge about them; a critical approach to the notion of ‘science of law’, its purpose and its methods; a positivist and/or empiricist approach to legal methodology; or any other scientific approach to epistemology and methodology in the broad sense.
The skills of the successful candidate must include the criticism of sources and the fundamental elements of legal methodology, in particular the research and processing of legal sources, methods of referencing and citation, the problematization of a question and the formulation of hypotheses about it, the deployment of a structured argument, etc. The workload includes the annual production of an in-depth diagnostic test for students entering the Master's in Law programme, to assess their training needs in this area and allocate them to the appropriate methodological courses. This test should be implemented during the first year.
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out research and work in at least one of the ULB Faculty of Law and Criminology's research centres, to take part in teaching at bachelor's and master's level, and to take part in the organisation and management of the Faculty.

A supplementary list of 3 to 10 achievements of any kind (publication, teaching, network, research contract, research visit, dissemination to the public, etc.) that the candidate wishes to highlight as evidence of his/her competence for the position, with a few lines explaining why they are significant;
The names and contact e-mail addresses of five referees who may be contacted for evaluating the applications, with due regard to gender balance. These persons may not be in conflict of interest.
