The Department for Applied Psychology: Work, Education, Economy is looking to fill a position of Senior Scientist (post-doc) to serve as a methodological advisor for research projects. The position will support the Faculty’s research output and will be formally located within the research group “Educational Psychology and Evaluation” (led by Prof. Christiane Spiel). The employment term is open-ended, with a start date of 1 October 2018. Salary will be based on the University of Vienna’s collective bargaining agreement (see: http://personalwesen.univie.ac.at/fileadmin/user_upload/dle_personalwesen

Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Methodological advisor to quantitative research projects, primarily in application-oriented research; data preparation, particularly ensuring the data quality of longitudinal (evaluation) studies (sample planning, statistically testing the measurement instruments, generating a dataset that is ready for analysis); statistical advisor for Faculty employees; support with data analysis; strongly involved in the methodological training of the Faculty’s doctoral students (workshops on statistical methods and one-on-one methodological coaching); methodological and statistical contributor to third-party funding applications and writing high-quality publications (e.g. by making decisions about statistical analysis procedures or conducting statistical simulation studies); independent methodological research related to relevant statistical research questions; (international) publications and lectures; independently teaching university courses; giving exams; advising students; contributing to Faculty’s evaluation and quality assurance measures; participation in Faculty and department administration.

Profile:
Very strong German and English language skills; completed doctoral studies or Ph.D. in a relevant area of psychology; excellent skills in quantitative statistical theories, models, procedures and methods (M-Plus, R, SPSS, etc.), nested data structures, missing values, latent measurement models, and the robustness of statistical procedures e.g. if core assumptions/prerequisites are not met. Expertise in evaluation research in accordance with international standards, including relevant publications. Demonstrated transfer of current methodological findings into research practice via publication in high-quality international scientific journals, conference papers, university teaching and workshops conducted domestically and abroad. Demonstrated cooperation with national and international partners in substantive fields of psychology via joint research projects and publications. Ability to work in a team, social skills, interest and experience in advising colleagues and project management skills.
