For all study programmes offered within the educational system of BI Norwegian Business School there must be an Academic Programme Manager who, in cooperation with the Academic Portfolio Director of the relevant programme area, has an overall responsibility for academic content, quality of education and programme execution. The Academic Programme Manager is responsible for ensuring that the relevant programme is developed and updated in line with the academic and market development and the general requirements related to quality of education and programme quality at BI. The function of Academic Programme Manager for a programme shall be held by a member of the academic staff who has teaching experience from the relevant subject area. Moreover, the person who is appointed should also teach on the programme during his/her period as Academic Programme Manager.

The function of Academic Programme Manager for the Master in Business will be vacant from 1st of August 2026. For the right academic, this Academic Programme Manager role is the opening to use both industry experience and multidisciplinary knowledge.

The Master in Business (siviløkonom) programme is offered at both campus Oslo and Bergen. The programme has seven specialisations (majors) from which all students choose one, and where each major has an Academic Coordinator reporting to the Academic Programme Manager in this role. In Oslo, all seven majors are offered while Bergen only offers one.

Examples of tasks and mandate for the role of Academic Programme Manager are:

  • Academic coordination and further development of the programme in line with BI´s strategy and in cooperation with the academic coordinators and course coordinator.
  • Annual update of the programme´s curriculum and learning goals for the Programme Committee (UUV).
  • Academic and pedagogical evaluation of the programme.
  • Initiate, plan and participate in academic coordination and information meetings and in particular organize programme seminars with course coordinators, focusing on programme quality and development activities.
  • Contact and cooperation with relevant university colleagues and actors in business life.
  • Front the programme both internally at BI and externally, and contribute to the marketing of the programme, in cooperation with the business unit.
  • Participation in relevant work processes related to the development of BI programmes, accreditation and quality assurance activities. Preparation of documentation regarding own programme for the Programme Committee (UUV).
  • Participation in the Programme Committee (UUV).
  • Annual programme report to the Academic Portfolio Director.

In cooperation with the Academic Portfolio Director for a programme the Academic Programme Manager is responsible for initiating and implementing corrective measures and for assuming an overall responsibility for the programme. The Academic Programme Manager reports to the Academic Portfolio Director of the relevant programme area, in his/her role as an Academic Programme Manager. He/she must also cooperate closely with Course Coordinators and Heads of Department. The term of the function of Academic Programme Manager is two years with a possibility of prolongation.
