Do you want to contribute to research in the area of energy systems analysis with the aim of providing knowledge which can be used for decision makers involved in the energy transition? This position offers an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral position at the Division of Energy Technology at Department of Environment and Energy Sciences.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will develop and apply energy systems modeling methodologies, including data gathering and interaction with stakeholders.
At the Division of Energy Technology, we develop and analyse sustainable energy systems and conversion technologies for industry and society. Through strong national and international collaboration, we unite experimental and systems research to create efficient, low-emission solutions driving the transition towards carbon-neutral energy and industry. The energy systems group at Energy Technology has a long experience in the field of energy systems analysis and development of modeling methodologies. A focus of the research is to understand the challenges and opportunities with integrating renewable energy sources and electrification of new sectors at different geographical levels. The research group participates in several large research projects such as Mistra Electrification and North European Power Perspectives. The group has close collaboration and interaction with many industries, cities, municipalities, regions, etc.
The overall aim of the research to be conducted is to analyze the conditions for the energy transition from both a technical and economic point of view. The announced position has two possible directions: 1. Analysis of the electrification of the energy intensive industry and how this interacts with the energy system. This work takes its starting point in a techno-economic description of different mitigation options for the industry. 2. The role of district heating and individual heating in future energy systems and the interaction between the heating of buildings and the electricity system. This work includes a detailed assessment of the heating system of a city.
Both directions require an engineering background.
When applying you should indicate your preference with respect to the two focus areas (1 or 2).
You will work in an interdisciplinary team including expertise in process technology, energy systems and economics and develop methods to assess the above aspects of the energy transition.
You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
The following experience will strengthen your application:
The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.
The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
