The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.

Supported by 19 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

You will play a major role in the operation and continued development of the ID23-1 and ID23-2 beamlines, as well as contribute to the activities of the Structural Biology Group.

The ESRF provides access to state-of-the art facilities for diffraction, solution scattering and cryo-electron microscopy experiments in Structural Biology. These include 5 refurbished beamlines dedicated to macromolecular crystallography (MX) and a new beamline dedicated to room temperature serial crystallography, as part of the ESRF Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS).

As a Beamline Scientist, your missions will be the following:

- Lead and develop independent scientific research focused on microfocus MX, integrating novel strategies that will advance and expand its applications, and contributing to broader group initiatives such as state-of-the-art synchrotron serial crystallography, in situ ligand dispensing and mixing, multi-crystal data collection, and cryo-trapped and room-temperature time-resolved MX.

- Manage the day-to-day operation and the ongoing development of the ID23-1 and ID23-2 beamlines, helping to the implementation of instrumentation, development of software and methods that will benefit the full suite of MX beamlines within the Structural Biology Group.

- Provide support to external users as a Local Contact on MX beamlines.

Further information may be obtained from M. Nanao ([email protected]) or M. Soler-López ([email protected]).

- PhD in chemistry, physics, biophysics, biology or closely related science

- Strong background in macromolecular crystallography data collection and analysis

- Experience with large scale facility instrumentations development and commissioning

- Interest in new method development

- Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users

- Familiarity with Python and software project management would be a plus

- Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
