ABOUT THE CIRCATEX PROJECT
The Circatex project is funded by the Belgian state and is part of the research programme ‘Belgium Builds Back Circular’. The project aims to develop a sustainable surface treatment of stainless steel to develop a durable non-stick coating as an alternative to the PFAS-based coatings currently in use.
The research consortium consists of the research centre Sirris, the company Demeyere (manufacturer of stainless steel cookware) and UGent.
UGent's role in this project is to investigate the attachment of proteins to the heated surfaces and to map the mechanisms responsible for this. A method also needs to be developed to monitor this adhesion quantitatively.
The research is part of the long-term research of the research group concerned into protein chemistry.
