A software engineering position to create dedicated software solutions for qubit electrical testing.

What you will do

The Quantum Device Team at imec is involved in the characterization of qubit devices integrated in its state-of-the-art 300mm cleanroom. To consolidate the device characterization platform, we are looking for a software engineer to develop solutions for qubit electrical test, focusing on high throughput measurement routines and data collection/analysis. You will work on electrical testing routines for room temperature wafer screening down to cryogenic temperatures, spanning multiple frequency decades between DC and microwave bands and develop software solutions for a variety of measurement techniques (DC, low-frequency AC, microwave pulse synthesis, homo/heterodyne detection). Your background is the one of a software developer that is able to translate physics-informed device testing into measurement scripts.  You will support R&D operations, interacting closely with physicists, engineers and material scientists, to create project-specific test solutions.

In detail, you will:

  • Develop, test, troubleshoot and maintain python-based drivers for instrument control.
  • Develop and manage data handling solutions. Manage database storage, develop solutions for statistical analysis and data visualization, develop web platform for data navigation
  • Develop software solutions for increasing automatization in data collection for Quantum Devices focusing on qubit tune-up, manipulation and readout.
  • Enforce software documentation and implement best practices for code reusability and debugging.
  • Train new and existing users to software usage.
  • Manage lab computing hardware and network.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. • You are an experienced professional in the area of software engineering, automation or a closely related discipline.
  • You are a software developer skilled in Python and C++, you have experience in development of drivers for instrument control, measurement scripting and data analysis
  • You are open to tackle complex physics problems and can translate the specific requests from device engineers into software.
  • Previous experience in qubit characterization is a nice plus.
  • You are team-oriented, open, clear and flexible in your communication.
  • You are a problem solver: you don’t think in problems, but in solutions. You can easily switch from a more strategic approach to a pragmatic approach and act upon it.
