Description of the subject area

Research at the Division of Neonatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproductive Health at KBH is broad and includes preclinical studies in well-equipped laboratories, clinical patient-centered research, nursing research, and registry-based studies.

The division conducts patient-centered research linked to the hospital's patient mission in neonatology, obstetrics and gynecology, and reproductive health, as well as education within the medical program and midwifery program at KI. The division has multiple research groups and is home to a WHO collaboration center for research and research training in Human Reproduction with several research midwives. The division also has established collaborations with strong networks both nationally and internationally. These provide unique opportunities for innovative research collaborations. The division's research groups hold a very strong position both nationally and internationally.

Your mission

As a professor of obstetrics and gynecology, you will lead and further develop research within the field. An important part of the role will also be academic leadership in education and research within the department.

The position includes clinical duties as at least specialist physician. The employment at KI is combined with a position at Karolinska University Hospital, the role includes working to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions. The position is divided, with 50 percent of the role as at least a specialist physician at the Medical Unit for Pregnancy and Childbirth, Theme Women's Health, at Karolinska University Hospital.

As a professor, you are expected to enhance highly specialized maternity care as a whole, promote clinically anchored research, and provide opportunities for research-based education to further strengthen learning in the field.

You will also play an important role in teaching obstetrics and gynecology within the medical program and midwifery education, as well as in continuous education for specialists, resident courses and doctoral education courses.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on research the applicant must have demonstrated very good pedagogical skills and excellent scientific skills and clinical skills. See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

The employment will be combined with an employment as a specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Karolinska University Hospital  and therefore you must have a Swedish MD with specialist competence in Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.

Since the position includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERSTo be eligible for an employment as

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), leadership and collaboration skills (2), and clinical skills (2).
