Do you want to contribute to better health for all?
The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers in the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programs in which biostatistics is an important part of all three. Researchers at the department are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral level.
Biostatistics is the application of statistics in the health field and includes the analysis and interpretation of data in biology, medicine, and public health. In public health science, statistical methods are used to design studies, collect data, and draw conclusions that can be used to understand epidemiological trends, develop new medical treatments, conduct clinical trials, and evaluate interventions at both the individual and policy levels.
You will conduct and lead your own high-quality research in the field of biostatistics, for example, regarding advanced statistical methods applied in public health science such as etiological and intervention research. You are expected to take a leading role at the department in statistical research methodology by driving educational and supportive efforts for research and development projects.
Within the framework of our advanced and doctoral level education programs, you will be course leader and teach biostatistical methods. As a course leader, you will also contribute to pedagogical development and quality work.
You will also collaborate with other researchers within the field, both at KI, nationally and internationally, for the strategic development of applied biostatistics within public health sciences.
To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills and very good scientific skills. See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet.
You shall have a doctoral education with a focus on biostatistics, epidemiology or equivalent and demonstrate deep theoretical knowledge and practical experience in statistical analysis, database management, and advanced programming. Furthermore, you shall have experience of method development relevant to the subject area, such as the development and application of modern analytical methods for health data.
It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (3) and, leadership and collaboration skills (2).
For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure are applied in relation to established profile of employment.
