Division

The Department of Oncology-Pathology conducts basic, translational, and clinical research together with educational activities related to cancer. We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join the Rudd group and work under the supervision of Research Specialist Si Min Zhang, who leads a newly established research program. The research environment is located at SciLifeLab Campus Solna, a state-of-the-art national infrastructure for life science that fosters cutting-edge, multidisciplinary collaboration at both national and international levels.

Duties

Differentiation therapy induces cancer cells into terminally differentiated, non-proliferating state, and has revolutionized the treatment of the once deadly acute promyeloid leukemia (APML). Nevertheless, identifying and mechanistic deciphering of factors controlling differentiation therapy response remains critical for 1) treating resistant/refectory APML, 2) individualized treatment regimen design to mitigate excessive side effects, and 3) sensitizing non-APML cancer to differentiation therapy. Here we are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team to identify and develop approaches to improve differentiation therapy, in the disease context of acute myeloid leukemia and beyond.

Entry requirements

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. A foreign researcher is a person living in another country who comes to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post-doctoral education.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate competence in

  • General cell and molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to RT-qPCR, Western blotting, high content imaging analysis, flow cytometry, genetic perturbation strategies, lentiviral vector construction. Prior experience in bioinformatics will be highly advantageous.
  • Keen interest in translational research in acute myeloid leukemia, differentiation therapy, glioma and related field of research.
  • Independent project management. The candidate will lead the project, and should be able to plan, execute, analyze, and present study results independently.
  • First author publication/preprint.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Prior experiences of international conference presentation and grant preparation is a plus.

Emphasis will be also placed on personal suitability, fitting well into the current research group.
