Job description

We invite applications for a Postdoc position in the field of space robotic systems. The successful candidate will join a research group that is focusing on new control methodologies for multi-robot systems. These involve a new state-of-the-art space robotics facility, which enables the development and evaluation of autonomous control and planning algorithms for multi-agent systems under simulated microgravity conditions, and several ATMOS free-flyers that move frictionlessly over the epoxy floor through thruster-like propulsion using compressed air (a form of levitation, video).

It is expected that the successful candidates will conduct research in this area, interact with doctoral and master students, and be involved in collaborative work in national and international projects. The position is mainly associated with two projects:

  1. DISCOWER, whose goal is to develop a novel control and planning multi-agent approach that considers the shared weightless characteristics of space and underwater environments and
  2. a joint SSF project with the Seoul National University on resilient cooperative manipulation.

These projects involve using open-source hardware and software stacks, such as PX4, ROS2, Gazebo, Unity, promote development in these architectures.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Applicants should have a doctoral degree related to at least one of the following research areas:
  • Space Systems and Robotics
  • Multi-agent control systems and Autonomy
  • Distributed control of networked systems
  • Formal methods for robot control synthesis
  • The successful applicant should have research expertise and an outstanding research and publication record.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills are a requirement.
  • We are looking for a strongly motivated person, who can work independently, as well as within a research group.
  • Applicants also need to possess teaching abilities. Excellent command of English orally and in writing is required.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).
  • Experience implementing and validating experimentally control/planning strategies·     
  • Experience in EU projects’ participation
  • Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
