We are proud of our long tradition of collaboration with the surrounding society and are accredited by AACSB.

Globalization, climate change, and new technologies—such as automation, digitalization, and AI—create both opportunities and challenges, leading to new business models, markets, and forms of management. To promote positive and sustainable societal development, it is crucial to understand how these changes impact businesses and public organizations. Key areas of interest include strategic innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, sustainability, and resilient supply chains.

The School of Business and Economics is committed to addressing these challenges through innovative research and learning environments where new technology and sustainability are central. Through our Business Lab, we provide analytical tools and develop solutions that help companies and decision makers make well-informed strategic decisions. The professor is expected to play a central role in developing knowledge on how new business models can support companies and organizations in navigating the green and digital transitions and in creating sustainable and competitive solutions for the future.

The position is based in the Department of Management at the School of Business and Economics, within the field of organization and leadership. Activities take place on campus in Kalmar and Växjö, as well as digitally. An attractive start-up package is included, comprising a faculty-funded PhD student and additional research time.

Scope of Employment: Full-time, permanent position
Start Date: As agreed upon

Job Description
As a professor, you will have the overall responsibility for leading and organizing research and teaching activities in the subject area. A key part of this role is making a significant contribution to the faculty’s research efforts in the field. This includes:

  • Defining a clear vision for research
  • Publishing in leading scientific journals
  • Actively applying for external research funding
  • Contributing to the development and renewal of the education portfolio

Additionally, the professor will be responsible for PhD supervision and will play an active role in GATE – Graduate School of Advanced Technology and Enterprising, Sweden’s first doctoral school focused on the challenges of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the digital transformation. GATE, a collaboration between the School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Technology at Linnaeus University, connects research with practical applications in business, particularly within the region where the university operates.

Teaching at all levels, including in Executive MBA programs, is an important part of the position. The professor is also expected to develop knowledge exchange with surrounding industry and sociey, and build long-term relationships with external stakeholders, benefiting both researchers and students. The research should contribute to understanding and addressing societal challenges while also influencing public debate.

Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a professor, the applicant must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical expertise (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 3).

Assessment Criteria
The assessment of applicants will be based on the degree of expertise required for eligibility, with equal weight given to scientific and pedagogical proficiency.

Scientific proficiency is assessed based on independent and active research according to established national and international standards, qualitatively and quantitatively. This places high demands on the scope, originality, breadth, and impact of the applicant’s research contributions.

Teaching proficiency must be demonstrated through instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and should encompass the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, supervision, and examination. Teaching proficiency should demonstrate a reflective approach to students' learning and the individual's own role as an educator.

We seek an individual with an outstanding research background in areas relevant to strategic management. Expertise in how new business models can support companies and organizations in the green and digital transitions, creating sustainable and competitive solutions, is considered an advantage. It is essential that applicants have established themselves as independent researchers at a high international level.

The following is particularly meritorious:

  • Demonstrated research excellence, evidenced by publications in high-quality international journals that substantially exceed the standard for associate professors.
  • Proven and solid ability to secure research funding in competition with other researchers.
  • Documented experience in establishing and leading strong research environments.
  • Documented national and international research collaborations.
  • Engagement with industry and societal stakeholders.

Applicants will also be assessed based on their teaching qualifications and skills. When evaluating teaching proficiency, consideration will be given to the ability to:

  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching and courses at all levels.
  • Supervise and examine students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
  • Communicate and implement a pedagogical vision.
  • Integrate current research and a scientific approach into teaching.

Proficiency in English is required. Swedish proficiency is not required at the time of employment, but the candidate should be prepared to take on administrative and teaching responsibilities that require understanding and use of Swedish within three years of employment.

University-level pedagogical training of at least 15 ECTS credits is considered an advantage.

The final decision on employment will be based on a comprehensive assessment of the applicant’s qualifications and alignment with the eligibility and assessment criteria.
