About EIEA:

The UM6P chair of « Industrial economy of emerging Africa located » (EIEA) in Rabat, Morocco, a part of The Business Pole of Mohammed IV Polytechnic University (UM6P, Morocco) is recruiting an assistant professor in economics (salary to be negotiated according to international standards).
The Chair Industrial Economics of Emergence in Africa revolves around a central theme:
economic emergence and job creation on the African continent, as well as their determinants
from a broad perspective. Our research unfolds along three main axes:

1. Energy, Climate, Natural Resources, and Sustainable Development in Africa: This

axis aims to analyze how the ongoing ecological transition can act as a catalyst for

structural transformation in Africa. We also examine the economic and social viability

conditions of ecological transition policies.

2. Labor Market, Demography, Migration, and Human Capital: Our objective is to

inform public policies to support job creation both in quantity and in quality. We delve

into the dynamics of job creation, job reallocation, informality, gender inequalities,

human capital issues related to education and training systems, internal and

international migrations, etc.

3. Dynamics of Structural Change and Integration of African Economies into Global Value Chains:

Research within this axis explores the impacts of and the driving forces behind the increasing

integration of the African continent into global value chains, as well as its intertwined

relationship with trade openness and capital market integration, particularly in the form of

foreign direct investments.

Job Description

EIEA strives to train PhD students in the topics above mostly in co-supervision with other
universities. In parallel, EIEA leads many research projects with main UM6P partners. In this context,
the recruited professors should be able, in the domains above, to:
- Conduct research projects,
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, or other academic platforms.
- Present research at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Stay current with developments in the field of expertise and contribute to the advancement
of knowledge.
- Participate to education programs inside the pole business,
- Contribute to make EIEA a leading laboratory in industrial economics in Africa.

 To achieve these goals in the context of our chair, the assistant professor should furthermore have advanced skills in micro-econometrics and use of machine learning tools.
