The UM6P CoreLab

The UM6P CoreLab is a research and service-providing platform managed in a centralized and simplified manner to facilitate access to a wide range of technologies, expertise, and services offered to UM6P researchers and external clients.

The UM6P CoreLab is a research and service-providing platform managed in a centralized and simplified manner to facilitate access to a wide range of technologies, expertise, and services offered to UM6P researchers and external clients. UM6P Core Lab is currently in search of a characterization Specialist to become a valued member of our team, contributing to CoreLab services. We are specifically seeking candidates who possess extensive experience in designing and conducting experiments using XRD, and SEM instruments, and who excel in various areas, such as sample preparation, assay development and method selection, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, and proficiency with software interfaces. Candidates with prior expertise in XRD and SEM laboratory is required. Additionally, a background of various methods of development will be viewed as advantageous. Strong communication and analytical abilities are paramount for this role, as they play a crucial part in the successful execution of responsibilities.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reception, processing, and classification of requests for characterization analysis
  • Handling of samples to be analyzed: storage, conditioning, preparation, etc.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain quality control records to ensure efficient lab process management.
  • Provide expert advice and essential recommendations based on acquired knowledge.
  • Perform analysis services, particularly in the physicochemical characterization of diverse materials, utilizing techniques such as SEM, XRD, XRF, UV-Vis, and others.
  • Generate comprehensive characterization and analysis reports and ensure traceability of experiments: organize and archive data.
  • Support researchers (Professors, PhDs, Post-Docs, and Scientists) and boost their research activities in the best conditions by making an excellent analysis and expertise service by different heavy techniques.
  • Ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Participate and organize training and workshop programs on physico-chemical analysis techniques for fellow researchers.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Active involvement in various department activities.
  • Participated in the supply and stock management of characterization laboratory consumables.
  • Participate in the platform certification process.
  • Participate in the preparation of the department’s event (workshops, seminars, presentations…)

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Master/Engineer or PhD degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in Material Sciences, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in handling heavy equipment for material characterization.
  • Strong collaborative skills, adept problem-solving abilities, and a proven record of teamwork.
  • Familiarity with lab safety protocols and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills (time and priority management)
  • Excellent communication skills (French and English).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task without compromising quality and accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
