At the Institute of Solid State Physics, in the Research Unit of Solid State Spectroscopy TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant prae-doc (all genders) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: September 2026.The research project focuses on magnetoelectric dynamics in strongly correlated materials and combines THz spectroscopy, synchrotron-based X-ray experiments, and pump–probe spectroscopy. Tasks:

  • Investigation of magnetoelectric dynamics in strongly correlated materials
  • Performance of THz time domain spectroscopy measurements
  • Participation in synchrotron-based X-ray experiments, e.g. resonant inelastic X-ray scattering and resonant X-ray diffraction
  • Performance of pump–probe spectroscopy
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Writing a dissertation and scientific publications

Your profile:

  • Completion of a master or diploma curriculum in physics or a related field
  • Strong interest in experimental condensed matter physics and work at large-scale facilities
  • Experience in spectroscopy and strongly correlated systems
  • Programming skills, especially Python, are an advantage
  • Team spirit and enthusiasm for scientific collaborations
  • Good command of written and spoken English

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week.
