A postdoctoral position in experimental atomic physics (Rydberg physics in ultracold gases) is available at the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium).
Subject: Laser cooling Calcium Rydberg atoms to ultracold temperatures
You will join an experimental and theoretical research effort that aims at directly cooling Ca Rydberg atoms with laser light for the first time (A. Bouillon, E. Marin-Bujedo and M. Génévriez, Phys. Rev. Lett. 132, 193402 2024). You will contribute to the final building phase of the setup and to the series of experiments that will enable the direct cooling of Ca Rydberg atoms in the coming months. You will also help to supervise younger researchers working on the project. Finally, your research work will explore the use of ultracold Ca Rydberg atoms for quantum communication, taking advantage of the presence of a second valence electron in that atomic species, as part of the Interreg program Secuweb.
