About the position

A fixed-term 100 % position is available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Psychology, affiliated to the Department of Psychology, for a period of 3 years. The position is connected to the research project PULSE – Psychology University students’ Longitudinal Study of Emergence, a longitudinal and cross-thematic study of psychology students’ personal, academic, and professional development throughout their studies and in the transition to working life. A full description of the PULS project can be obtained upon request to [email protected].

The position is located at Campus Kristiansand. The starting date is negotiable with the faculty. 

The Faculty comprises five departments: the Department of Health and Nursing Science, the Department of Nutrition and Public Health, the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, the Department of Psychosocial Health, and the Department of Psychology. The postdoctoral fellow will be affiliated with the research environment at the Department of Psychology Institutt for psykologi and will contribute to the further development of the PULS project.

Responsibilities

The aim of the postdoctoral project is to advance knowledge of psychology students’ personal and professional development. Applicants are required to develop a project proposal within the framework and aims of the PULS project. The proposal may be grounded in one or more of the core disciplines of psychology - personality psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, biological psychology, or cognitive psychology - or in profession-related themes concerning education, learning, and development within professional psychology training.

PULSE - Psychology University students’ Longitudinal Study of Emergence is a multi-cohort longitudinal study investigating how psychology students develop personally, academically, and professionally throughout their studies and into working life. The postdoctoral position will be linked to one or more subprojects within PULS. Relevant thematic areas include:

  • well-being and quality of life 
  • learning and academic functioning 
  • personal goals and self-regulation 
  • identity development and self-understanding 
  • empathy, relationships, and social functioning 
  • morality and values 
  • life narratives, life chapters, and transitional phases 

Applicants are asked to submit a project proposal of no more than six pages, including references. The proposal should present and discuss relevant research questions, methodological approaches, and a plan for implementation. Applicants must also situate their project within the relevant research field by referring to pertinent literature and previous research and clearly articulate the core idea of the project within this context.

The postdoctoral fellow will actively contribute to data collection, analysis, and publication within the PULS project. The position also includes contributions to teaching activities at the department (teaching, supervision, and assessment).

Required qualifications

  • Cand.Psych., Master’s degree, or equivalent qualification in psychology or a closely related field. 
  • PhD in psychology or a related discipline. Applicants must have had their doctoral thesis approved by the application deadline.

In the assessment of applicants, emphasis will be placed on documented academic achievements and research potential. The applicant’s academic background, methodological competence, scientific publications, and other research activities will also be considered. Particular weight will be given to the quality, feasibility, and academic relevance of the project proposal.

The working language at the University of Agder is Norwegian. The successful candidate must be proficient in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both written and oral level A2. Good knowledge of English, both written and oral, is also required. 

Criteria for positions as Post-doctoral Research Fellow (in Norwegian). 

Desired qualifications

  • Experience with empirical psychological research 
  • Experience with longitudinal research designs 
  • Experience with scientific publishing 
  • Interest in research on mental health and psychosocial development at both individual and group levels 
  • It is hoped that applicants will have presented their theses during the last five years.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1352, NOK 690 000 – 750 000 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
