Your role

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in areas of interest to FINATRAX, particularly linking information systems and artificial intelligence (AI):
    • Investigating the design knowledge of developing AI-based information systems, such as AI-enabled engagement e.g., agentic AI and AI-enabled insight generation e.g., machine learning analytics in both individual and organizational contexts
    • Exploring Human-AI collaboration
    • Designing, prototyping and implementing AI-based information systems that address pressing challenges in private and public sectors.
    • Evaluating the impacts of AI-based information systems using both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
  • Investigating and applying AI as a research method in IS e.g., computationally intensive theory construction
  • Prepare research proposals to attract industry partnerships as well as national and European grant projects
  • Manage research projects and prepare project deliverables in collaboration with our industry partners
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications, aiming for the best-ranked outlets e.g., Association for Information System's Senior Scholars' List of Premier Journals
  • Communicate and work with stakeholders in government: ministries, regulators, government-run start-up incubators and companies
  • Mentor and supervise PhD students, providing guidance and support in their research endeavors

Successful candidates will join the young, vibrant, and interdisciplinary FINATRAX Research Group, which builds bridges between business research and information systems engineering. The group conducts research on the application and the impact of technology on organisations in the private or public sector. Our team consists of international researchers with backgrounds in technology, law, management, economics, and other fields, united by a shared commitment to advancing sustainable technologies that benefit society.

Your profile

  • PhD degree in Information Systems, Business Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Human-AI Interaction, or a related field
  • Proficiency in research methods commonly used in IS research, such as design science research
  • Strong interest in publishing in high-ranked journals such as the Association for Information Systems Senior Scholars' List of Premier Journals and in related outlets like Business & Information Systems Engineering, Electronic Markets, and in IS conferences like ICIS, ECIS, and DESRIST, CaiSE
  • Proven track record of publishing research papers in the aforementioned conferences and in top-tier IS journals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Knowledge of French, German, and Luxembourgish is not required.

    • A research statement and a list of topics of particular interest to the candidate (250 words), followed by a concrete research agenda of planned research activities that are aligned with the topics covered by FINATRAX and ideally target the Information Systems discipline (max 500 words). Please discuss research questions, including methods, theoretical lenses (if any), and targeted outlets (conferences/journals)
    • A statement on the candidate's personal motivation for applying (250 words) 
    • A strategy for the acquisition of research grants and industry partnerships (250 words)
  • PhD diploma or a letter/information indicating the expected defense date
  • Transcript of all modules and results from university-level courses taken
  • List of publications
