Job description

As a temporary replacement teacher based at the Philosophy Section at the University of Twente, we plan that you will teach Module 7 and co-teach Module 11 in Creative Technology (CreaTE) in quartile 3, co-teach Module 11 in Technical Computer Science in quartiles 1 and 3, teach Module 13 in Technical Computer Science in quartiles 2 and 4, co-teach the course Computer Ethics in MSc Computer Science in quartile 2, and co-teach the MSc PSTS 1 course Society, Politics and Technology in quartile 4. These course allocations are intended, but you may be asked to teach alternatives to these courses if circumstances require it.

Your profile

Your profile will include a PhD in the Philosophy of Technology or a related field, as well as experience running courses in Philosophy of Technology and Ethics of Technology. In particular, experience in teaching philosophy and ethics to science and engineering students is important and some experience teaching computer ethics would be welcome. Finally, you should be willing to co-teach and work in a team.

Our offer

Temporary contract from September 2026 through December 2027 for 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE).

Gross monthly salary (based on full-time employment) between €3,546 and €5,538, depending on experience (salary scale 10).

Excellent secondary employment benefits, including: 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, good pension scheme.

29 vacation days per year for a full-time position.

This position is offered by the Philosophy Section at the University of Twente within the Behavioural and Management Sciences faculty (BMS). Our group of about 20 permanent staff specializes in the philosophy of science and technology, and contributes to the education of students throughout the university.
