The Swiss Society for Financial Market Research (Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Finanzmarktforschung, SGF) was founded by Dr. Werner Rein and a group of Swiss economists in 1986. The main purpose of the society was to promote modern finance and to enhance the communication between academics and practitioners in this new and growing field at this time. To achieve this, the quarterly journal "Finanzmarkt und Portfolio Management" (Financial Markets and Portfolio Management) was launched. Its Editors were were Dr. Martin Jetzer, Prof. Dr. Walter Wasserfallen, Prof. Dr. Heinz Zimmermann and Prof. Dr. Manuel Ammann. Since April 2012 the Editor is Prof. Dr. Markus Schmid. Among the other activities of the society are irregular press talks on recent finance issues published in the journal and the annual conference.
