University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt FHWS

The UniversityWuerzburg is a cheerful city in the heart of Franconia, and owes its worldwide reputation mainly to its location and sights as well as to two famous artists: Tilman Riemenschneider, a brilliant sculptor of the baroque period, and his contemporary, an ingenious architect named Balthasar Neumann. Wuerzburg attracted a large numbers of professors and students, whom are working at Wuerzburg´s institutions of higher education, including the University of Wuerzburg, the College of Music, and the University of Applied Sciences. Wuerzburg institutions provide an excellent educational system for approximately 23.000 students. The University of Wuerzburg is one of the oldest universities in Germany, and consists of twelve faculties with subjects ranging from Business Administration and Law to Archaeology and Zoology. The campuses of the University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg are located in Wuerzburg and Schweinfurt. There is also an outstanding range of secondary schools and institutes to continue education both in Wuerzburg and Schweinfurt.

The City

Wuerzburg, the fourth biggest metropolis of Bavaria, is located at the riverside of the Main between Frankfort and Nuremberg. 10,000 out of 130,000 inhabitants are from 130 different countries. About 30,000 students keep the city vibrant and progressive. Wuerzburg is a historic city - on the one hand it is a thousand-year-old town and on the other hand it is an active modern university city. The great medieval fortress "Marienburg" dominates the skyline overlooking the beautiful old town with its architectural masterpieces from many different periods. Art, music, and the fine wines of Franconia are all important elements of the lifestyle in Wuerzburg. Wuerzburg's world of Economy and Science comprises one of the oldest and famous companies of the world "Koenig und Bauer". Did you know that 9/10 of all banknotes of the world are printed on the printing presses of Koenig and Bauer? Another example is the "Jaeger" company which is the world-leader for medical equipment. The faculty of Medicine and Biotechnology of the University of Wuerzburg enjoys a high international reputation. Many different events and highlights like the "Africa Festival", "Wine Festival", "Mozart Festival" and "Carnival" take place in Wuerzburg during the entire year. One of the most famous events is the "Christmas Market" where you can get German "Bratwurst", "Gluehwein" and "Lebkuchenherzen".
