YOUR TASKS
- You will spend a minimum of 70% of your assignment on scientific research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation. This position focuses on research into the impact of mycotoxins and endocrine-disrupting chemicals on neurodegeneration in humans, with a view to healthy aging. The researcher studies (mechanistic) links between exposure to mycotoxins and cognitive decline, using in vitro, in vivo, and/or epidemiological models. The goal is to contribute to scientific understanding and policy development regarding environmental factors that influence healthy aging.
- You will assist in the teaching activities of the Department of Bioanalysis, including the Dutch-language courses 'Bio-analytical Practicum', 'Pharmaceutical Bachelor's Thesis', and 'LISa-Team'.
- You will supervise Master's students in the context of their Master's thesis.
- You will contribute to the internal and external services of the Department.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a Master’s degree in Drug Development, Pharmaceutical Care, or a related pharmaceutical discipline.
- Candidates with a degree obtained outside the EU must be able to present a NARIC equivalency certificate upon appointment.
- You have a strong interest in scientific research, with a particular focus on the impact of environmental factors on neurodegeneration and healthy aging.
- You are motivated to carry out a doctoral project and to contribute to innovative insights in the field of human mycotoxicology and endocrine-disrupting substances.
- You are familiar with, or willing to deepen your knowledge of, bio-analytical techniques such as liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) or High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS).
- Knowledge of or interest in statistical data analysis, preferably in R or another programming platform, is considered an asset.
- You have a good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written, to communicate effectively in an academic context and to contribute to teaching and publications.
- You are an independent worker with a critical, analytical, and problem-solving mindset, and you work in an organized and results-oriented way.
- You possess strong social and communication skills and function well within a multidisciplinary and international research team.
- Experience with or participation in scientific (international) conferences, continuing education, or teaching activities is considered a plus.
- You are eager to learn, professional, and enthusiastic about actively contributing to the scientific output of the research group.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education.
