YOUR JOB

The Ghent University Business Informatics (UGent Business Informatics) research group and the Cost and Value Analytics, Modelling and Optimisation (CVAMO) Flanders Make @UGent core lab have a funded 4-year PhD student position available in the area of process mining with applications in the manufacturing industry (Principal Investigators: Prof. dr. Seppe vanden Broucke, Prof. dr. Frederik Gailly, Prof. dr. ir. Steven Mertens, Prof. dr. Geert Poels - https://ugent-businessinformatics.github.io).
The start date for this position is 1 September 2025.
We expect the PhD student to engage in the following activities:

  • Conducting scientific research in the field of process mining to obtain a doctoral degree.
  • Contributing to process mining and knowledge extraction projects in collaboration with the manufacturing industry.
  • Valorisation of research results within the manufacturing industry.
  • Providing support for research, teaching, and service activities (maximum of 10% of the time allocation)

Job profile

  • You hold a Master’s degree (preferably) in business engineering, business informatics, management information systems, computer science, artificial intelligence or software engineering.
  • You are familiar with basic concepts and techniques of process mining.
  • You have an interest in research conducted in close collaboration with companies.
  • You have a very good command of the English language.
  • You are a team player but can also work independently.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
  • Your contract will start on 09/01/2025 at the earliest.
  • The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by Team Personnel Administration based on family status and seniority. A grant that meets the conditions and criteria of the regulations for doctoral fellowships is considered free of personal income tax. Click here for more information about our salary scales
