YOUR TASKS
- At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation in the field of multi-omics on minimally invasive microbiopsies. The doctoral research focuses on the development and optimization of methods to simultaneously analyse RNA and proteins from small (1 mm³) tissue samples, with a view to longitudinal molecular profiling and the identification of diagnostic biomarkers in a translational, clinical context.
- You will assist in the teaching activities at the department. Specifically, you are responsible for the practicals of the course “Biotechnology and Protein Medicines” in the Master’s programme of Pharmaceutical Care and Drug Development and “Biochemistry and biotechnology” in the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
- You will supervise master students in the context of their master dissertation.
- You will assist in the internal and external services of the department
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a degree of Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment
- For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
- You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services.
- Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and/or with the combined analysis of RNA and proteins (multi-omics) is a strong asset. You are interested in the associated data analysis and are willing to further develop your skills in bioinformatic and statistical methods for the integration of multi-omics data.
- You have an affinity with a laboratory environment and can work with analytical equipment or are willing to learn this.
- You have a solid knowledge of the field of biotechnology and of applications of recombinant proteins and protein-based medicines, enabling you to be responsible for the practicals of the “Biotechnology and Protein Medicines” course.
- You have experience with, or a strong affinity for, experimental design, protocol optimization and rigorous documentation of laboratory work, preferably in a translational or clinical research context.
- Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended
- You have excellent teaching and communication skills
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
