YOUR TASKS 

  • At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation.
  • You will assist in the teaching activities at the Department of Pharmaceutics, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, specifically the following courses:  Physical Chemistry of Drugs, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences: an Integrated Approach, Integrated Bachelor Course, Advanced Biotherapies, Major Biologics.
  • You assist in teaching within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Initially, this involves the courses Physical Chemistry of Drugs, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences: an Integrated Approach, Integrated Bachelor Course, Advanced Biotherapies and Major Biologics. However, depending on the needs of the department and faculty, you may also be involved in teaching other courses. You will devote a maximum of 30% of your appointment to teaching.
  • You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • You hold a degree of Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Master in Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Master in Biomedical Sciences, Master in Biochemistry & Biotechnology, or equivalent.
  • The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
  • For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted.
  • You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services.
  • Strong, documented hands‑on experience with nucleic acid nanoformulations (design, preparation and characterization). Experience with lipid nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, or similar systems and their evaluation using in vitro cell-based assays is essential.
  • Proficiency with analytical and biotechnological techniques, including qPCR, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, plasmid design, production and in vitro transcription of mRNA.
  • Experience with conducting in vivo animal experiments is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze complex datasets and draw clear conclusions.
  • Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended.
  • You are immediately available to supervise practical sessions within the teaching activities of the department and the faculty.
  • You have excellent teaching and communication skills.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU 

  • We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
  • Your appointment will start on 1 August 2026 at the earliest
