Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet and consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The Clinical epidemiology division is centered around clinical epidemiology where population-based health care data, often supplemented with information from medical records, biological samples and surveys, are used to address questions that aim to improve patient health care and clinical practice. The projects conducted at the division typically have a strong clinical anchoring.

We are now looking for a highly motivated statistician with good programming skills to join our cancer epidemiology group in an ongoing collaboration for register-based research in lymphoma.

Your mission

The candidate will perform database management and statistical programming and work in studies that aim to increase the understanding of lymphoma survival and survivorship issues. The candidate will also contribute to the planning of forthcoming epidemiological studies for example by assisting in the development of study protocols and statistical analysis plans (SAPs), programming and manuscript writing process.

The work will be performed in collaboration with oncologists, hematologists and biostatisticians from Karolinska Institutet and other national and international collaborators. The candidate will be part of this multidisciplinary research team. The working language for this position is English and Swedish.

Your profile

The applicant should have the following requirements:

  • A Master's degree in epidemiology or statistics (with a focus on medical applications). If the applicant has a degree in epidemiology, they should be able to demonstrate practical experience and additional courses in statistics.
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience in statistical programming to perform advanced survival analysis using statistical software (R, SAS, or Stata).
  • Documented experience working with Swedish health registers in observational research studies.

Prior documented experience in hematology research and methods used in population-based cancer patient survival (including relative survival) is a merit. A doctoral degree in a subject (e.g., medical science, epidemiology, or biostatistics) relevant to the current position is also a merit. The primary working language is Swedish, but the applicant should also be fluent in both spoken and written scientific English.

When selecting candidates, we will place great emphasis on experience in independently prioritizing and planning one's own work, personal qualities, and motivation for applying for the position. The applicant should have a strong interest in medical research.
