This position belongs to the organizational unit Structural Materials on Campus Ghent (Elooi-lab). The unit is part of the Department of Materials Engineering (www.mtm.kuleuven.be).
At the Faculty of Engineering Technology of KU Leuven, Ghent campus, a full-time position is vacant as assisting academic staff in the Bachelor/Master Electromechanics. This course belongs to the Science and Technology Group. The vacancy is located in the broad domain of the engineering disciplines of materials engineering/project work/mechanical engineering and will start in September/October 2024. The appointment period is for 2 years, subsequently extendable.

Project

The teaching assignment includes providing education in the bachelor's and master's degree in engineering technology (electromechanics). These teaching tasks include:

  • Materials science labs
  • Labs CAD (Solidworks)
  • Supervising project work that consists of the design of mechanical structures and machines
  • Supervision of master's theses.

The PhD concerns the characterization of vibration fatigue in electrical steels under resonant loading conditions. This is a study that investigates how electrical steels used in equipment such as transformers and motors suffer from fatigue by vibration at resonant frequencies. The research analyzes how repeated vibration loads cause cracking and fractures, and includes experiments and models to improve the durability of these materials.

Profile

  • Candidates must hold a Master's degree in engineering technology or in engineering sciences, specialisation electromechanics or mechanical engineering or materials science.
  • Knowledge of equipment for materials testing is an added value.
  • Candidates must familiarize themselves with the CAD software Solidworks.
  • Candidates are expected to be highly motivated and show an interest in both education and research so that they can contribute positively to the quality of the department.
  • Excellent knowledge of Dutch and knowledge of English is a requirement for the teaching assignment.
