Job description

Key takeaways

Are you enthusiastic about exploring the dynamics of trust and vulnerability relationships in the landscape of the self-amplifying technology immersion at work?

Are you curious about what lived vulnerability experiences look like and how they unfold as a future virtue?

Do you want to immerse in purpose-driven work settings (e.g., NGOs, health care, learning environments) to address real-world challenges?

Do you have a desire to make an impact on the design and management of workplace technology for the greater good of organizations and employees?

If so, we invite you to join our team and embark on an intellectually stimulating adventure. During this adventure, you will contribute to IEBIS broad portfolio of cutting-edge research and valorisation projects for international and national organisations.

You will benefit from an interdisciplinary team of people management, human resource management (HRM) and organization studies experts conducting impactful and innovative research on control and trust, people analytics, algorithmic management, innovation ecosystems, and "robots as new team members". As such, you will join the IEBIS section of the High-tech Business & Entrepreneurship Department (HBE) at the Faculty of Behavioural Management and Social Sciences.

The challenge

With this post-doctoral research project, we strive to deepen our understanding of trust and vulnerability as crucial aspects of humankind, and, thus, also interpersonal relationships at work. Scholars across domains have unanimously recognized that vulnerability lies at the heart of trust, grounded in positive expectations. Nevertheless, despite its pivotal role, the precise nuances of vulnerability within the context of trust remain under-explored. This shortage of knowledge becomes even more worrisome as growing levels of technological sophistication in the workplace highlight human vulnerability and "reshuffle" the foundation on which trust was believed to be built.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and creative teammate, that does not limit her/himself to the minimum but who is up for making research impact for the good of employees and organizations. Your profile matches the following elements:

  • You hold a PhD in management, organization studies, business administration, (organizational) psychology, political science, sociology, or a related field;
  • You have experience with or a strong affinity to trust research or other fabrics of interpersonal relationships at work and demonstrate sound critical thinking skills and qualitative data analysis competencies;
  • Able to conduct research projects independently and willing to make an impact through publishing in peer-reviewed journals and co-creating knowledge with societal partners;
  • A committed team spirit and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment;
  • A strong passion and outstanding skills in critical thinking, empathy, and qualitative methods of scientific inquiry;
  • Good communication skills and an excellent command of English.

Our offer

We offer a fulltime position for 2 years within a very stimulating scientific environment. The university (and IEBIS) offers a dynamic ecosystem with enthusiastic colleagues.

  • Your starting salary will be between € 3877 and € 5090,- gross per month (scale 10) depending on your experience;
  • You will get a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%;
  • You will be the member of a supportive team with decades of scholarly experience in related fields of study into IT-based HRM, new organizational forms, AI at work, algorithmic management and the future of work
  • You will have a minimum of 29 holidays in case of full-time employment;
  • You will participate in a solid pension scheme;
  • You have access to professional and personal development programs;
  • You have a high degree of responsibility and independence, while we encourage collaborating with colleagues from IEBIS and other groups.

Information and application

Are you interested in joining our interdisciplinary team ? Please submit your application before July 31st 2024, and include:

  • A cover letter (maximum 2 pages A4), emphasizing your qualification and motivation for applying to this position;
  • A short research proposal (maximum 1 page A4) outlining your ideas on what questions/empirical phenomena you would like to address during the Post-Doc project;
  • A piece of text (such as an excerpt of your doctoral thesis, maximum 2 pages A4) that you are proud of and that serves as a token of your writing skills.
