The research group of the department of mechanical engineering at Gent Technology Campus focuses on improving logistic processes.
New types of devices and machines are designed and developed. They lead to new logistic concepts and procedures.
In our research, we work together intensively with other research groups on Campus.
The research group also has access to an extensive network of companies in the industry and in the logistics sector, both in the region and internationally.
The faculty of Engineering Technology organizes education in applied Engineering programmes.
It relies on an extensive national and international network, both in the academic and business world.

Project

The student will collaborate with a research group active in the development of new robotic technologies to increase the level of safety and productivity in industrial contexts and in particular in logistics applications.

The research project specifically concerns the development of hardware and software systems to allow a human operator to operate at a short distance from an industrial manipulator.
The specific research activities concern the development of wearable systems for motion intention detection and for the correction of human movement through haptic communication.
Such systems will be integrated into a sensorized environment to allow the robotic system to responsively adapt its movements to the actions of the human operator, in order to ensure safety.

Profile

The ideal candidate:
  • Has a strong background in Mathematics, Physics and Engineering, as needed to understand and develop the model of complex robotic systems.
  • Is able to quickly understand and learn both theoretical and applied conecepts.
  • Graduated (MS) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Is fluent in Dutch, as needed to support teaching activities at Bachelor level. English proficiency can also be accepted.
  • Has good communication skills
