KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Subject field

Computer science with specialization in algorithms and complexity theory

Subject description

The subject consists of foundational theoretical computer science.  This covers research in all areas of algorithms and complexity theory such as circuit complexity, combinatorial optimization, communication complexity, distributed algorithms, graph algorithms, quantum algorithms and proof complexity.

Duties

The work includes research and supervision of doctoral students within the subject field. The assistant professor is expected to establish and lead a research program, including establishment of a research group. In addition, the assistant professor is expected to attract research funding, and establish industrial and academic collaboration both nationally and internationally. The position also includes development and teaching of courses within the first-, second- and third-cycle in the subject field.

The assistant professor will be given opportunity to develop their independence as researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance.
