The Centre for mathematical Plasma Astrophysics (CmPA) of the Department of Mathematics consists of five professors and around 60 researchers (Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers) of various international background. CmPA has, among other things, an extensive expertise in modelling of magnetohydrodynamics wave phenomena, with the focus on the solar atmosphere. This position continues that line of research in the team of Prof. Tom Van Doorsselaere. The topic is the theoretical exploitation of the new Q-variables which follow the waveframe, and that are an extension of the Elsasser variables. The aim is to use the Q-variables to find analytical descriptions of linear and non-linear MHD wave phenomena. Furthermore, we will use the Q-variables to filter out wave modes in complicated plasma simulations.
