Job description

The Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the ULB is opening a full-time chair in sociology, including teaching, research and community service tasks. 

The successful candidate will participate fully in all supervisory tasks (teaching, supervision of graduate dissertations and PhD students), research and administrative tasks of the Department of Social Sciences and Labour Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences. The candidate must demonstrate a good knowledge of French and English and must contribute to the international visibility, both scientifically and academically, of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB).

The department is particularly interested in applications whose research integrates well with fields of expertise already developed by members of the Department of Social Sciences and Labour Studies and of the Institute of Sociology. Research in the field of the sociology of migration and social inequalities will be particularly appreciated.

He/she will be invited to apply for funding from the European Research Council (ERC) as well as any funding and research projects outside the University (FNRS, Regions, Europe, etc.) allowing him/her to develop his/her research. To this end, he/she will benefit from the support of the ULB Research Department.

  • a Curriculum vitae including a list of publications:

  • a 7,000-character report (4 pages) presenting the applicant’s research activities and a research project, including how these will integrate into ULB’s research teams
  • a teaching dossier including a 7,000-character report (4 pages) on the applicant's previous teaching activities and a teaching project for the first five years in this position; these must be relevant to the faculty and to the teaching profiles for the programmes to which the applicant is to contribute
  • a note on the applicant's international achievements and projects (no more than 4 pages)
  • the names and e-mail addresses of five references (with equal gender representation) who may be contacted by those in charge of evaluating applications.  These references should not have conflicts of interest because of family or emotional ties.
  • the successful candidate may be required to present documents attesting to previous work experience to prove 4 years of scientific seniority.
